A Newer Adventure

The lives of the first family of surfing have now been on public record even more dramatically represented on the big screen through the magnificent theatrical artistry of the movie, "Surfwise." For those of you who haven't seen it, it is an encapsulation of the complete history of our family, beginning in the early '30s when "Doc", Dorian Paskowitz, realized he was on a quest. It reveals his passage through society as a young Jew in love with surfing who takes enough time out from the waves to graduate from Stanford University as a medical doctor. For some this would be a life's accomplishment, but for this quixotic character it is only a side street to his arrival at his destiny. In 1958 after years of despondent routine and two failed marriages, Doc Paskowitz finds his wife, Juliette, who will deliver his eight sons and one daughter, whom they will raise for the next 18 years in a motorhome suited for four adult passengers. Surfwise is a remarkable movie and remains one of the most highly-rated documentaries on www.rottentomatoes.com. Go see it!
